About Us

DELIGHT FOUNDATION AFRICA is a Non-Governmental Organization that was started with the aim of helping disadvantaged, orphans, vulnerable, street, and the at-risk youth and children whose life and future seem to be losing hope and meaning. To rebuild and restore them for a better life, and also to reconcile street children with their families, because as an organization we do believe in a second chance. All this is done through identifying different talents in music, art and crafts, vocational skills, film acting, education, agriculture, games and sports and also engaging them in guidance and counseling.

Our Mission

To revive hopes of the unprivileged, at-risk and disadvantaged children through music, education, sports, agriculture, art and crafts, vocational skills, providing them with a home, protection and instilling hope to create a reliable and a self-sustaining citizen.

Our Vision

To transform lives of the children, educate, nature them, and explore their gifts and talents to be an inspiration to the world.

What we do

What we do to improve children's lives

Although a minority group of conservatives still cling to the point that we can do without schooling, majority of the population in the world unanimously second the fact that education is what has cropped into the world’s social and economic blossom. Most of the people in our society today with well to do families have acquired atleast the best formal education. Today in Uganda particularly, education is still believed the “key to success”. Most of the people who are below the poverty line, can barely afford 2 meals a day, wondering on the streets in search for a living but in vain, are the uneducated ones, the illiterate. They are therefore subjected to very harsh conditions like starvation, homelessness, street life among others.

At Delight Foundation Africa, we believe that music can bring a great impact in the children’s lives. It attracts, rescues, and nurtures them. Music instills discipline and promotes teamwork, giving our children something to belong to. Almost all take part in the performing programs—the Brass Band, Cultural Dance, Drama, singing and Acrobatics. Our music programs touch everything we do. When our band matches in the roads, going to nearby venues, crowds of children follow them. Sometimes street children see our obvious joy, and ask to join the Foundation—our answer is most often yes. Another exhilarating activity is cultural dance and drumming. Bright costumes, authentic, perfectly executed dances, and rhythmic music conspire to have the audience dancing in their seats. It’s quite a spectacle—be sure to see our residents perform if you are visiting.

Orphans, vulnerable and Children from the streets are enlisted in the rehabilitation program which runs for one year. Its curriculum is child-centered and aims at interesting the child in learning. The children are taught the following; Literacy lessons, Reproductive sexual health, bible study, social behaviors, Life skills, Math, Art, English, Science, Agriculture, games, Sports, Music, drama and HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and care. After the program the child can join either formal school or vocational training.

DFA-Uganda carries out community outreach programs. We reach the slum areas and the dirtiest places around our communities, we sweep, pick garbage, burn rubbish, clear drainage lines, and sensitize the communities on how to keep the environment clean and the dangers of poor sanitation in the communities. In most slum areas in our communities, poor sanitation is a big challenge. This has brought about diseases like cholera, diarrhea, malaria and many others, which has left many young children affected. As DFA-Uganda we base on that to reach out to more than 5000 homes through this community program.

More about

A History of DFA

The history of Delight Foundation Africa is traced way back from 2017, the time of its inception as a small group of youths. It begun with the collective ambitious and hopeful efforts of a few youths who opted to come together and change the society. It is because by that time the society had been filled with so much plight of given groups of people and among those comprised the big number of orphans ,the street children for various reasons, the disadvantaged and less privileged youths, the abandoned and homeless. Moreover the victim included the children below the age of eight years, those in the adolescent age of which both of those are critical stages. Because of the saying that “No animal cries without feeling pain” and that “A task only becomes a burden when others fail to do their part”, there were a thought that a stepping stone would be laid to provide a turning point for the less privileged, the seemingly miss outfits in society. It was therefore began with a donation of a few poor, rusty and used Brass Band instruments from a closing Organization and training Brass Band Music comprised the early stage of the Organization in 2017. Among the suffering and bad life experiences that attacked the hearts of the founders included the homeless, hunger and starvation, subjection to prostitution theft and robbery. Others were just hopeless and looked at suicide as their last resort. For the start therefore, Brass Band music was locked as part of alleviations services to buckles the challenges forced by the under locked folks. Sensation was therefore started and training music despite the inadequate and poor state of instruments and few performances would be done. This took time of those children and youth which would otherwise be spent in committing juvenile differences, thinking of committing suicide and also give a sense of belonging in the society and other ultimately intended results. Although social realities are very big in east Africa and Africa in general. It was locked at, society level because of the limitedness of resources. Music only was not the only issue looked, issues like school sponsorship, rehabilitation and resettlement, vocational training and accommodation of the homeless were looked at as a long term objectives. To own it all, the few founders had heartfelt teal and love for the seemingly misfortunate people to give them a sense of belonging, reclaim them and revive their hopes. From the year 2017, it was organized, registered and started operating as a community based organization “Delight Brass Band” and in the year 2018,it become registered as Delight Foundation Africa but still as a Community Based Organization. However in 2019 fortunately, It was transformed into Non-Governmental Organization registered and recognized by the government of Uganda because of it wider vision and objectives and intended wider coverage
